Elemental Insight Exhibition at the Met Office
Bridgette Ashton was selected to exhibit her work as part of the Met Office's celebratory exhibition ‘Elemental Insight’.

Her piece 'Forlorn Objects Reunited' comprises a series of discarded handbags, filled with jetsam gathered from Cornish beaches, individually characterised and embellished.

Elemental Insight’ at the Met Office new headquarters opened on 17th May and ran until 12th September 2004.

It then toured a number of venues nationwide including Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Derby Museum & Art Gallery and concluding at Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery in April 2006.

"...Bridgette Ashton...uses found objects in her assemblages, in this case plastic debris, lost by users or dumped overboard at sea.  These objects are fashioned into handbag forms which look like something from the high fashion catwalk, one of the triumphs of the consumer culture which has created this detritus in the first place."  Alex Murdin, Elemental Insight catalogue.
